StampDuty
Definition
A government tax levied on the transfer of property or securities. For mutual fund investments, a stamp duty of 0.005% is applicable on all purchases (lump sum and SIP) since July 2020. For real estate, stamp duty varies by state and is a significant cost in property transactions.
Example
On a mutual fund SIP of Rs 10,000, stamp duty of Rs 0.50 (0.005%) is deducted, resulting in an actual investment of Rs 9,999.50.
