Definition
A mutual fund that invests predominantly (at least 65%) in equity shares and equity-related instruments. Equity funds are categorised by market capitalisation (large-cap, mid-cap, small-cap), investment style (value, growth), or theme (sectoral, thematic). They carry higher volatility but potentially higher long-term returns.
Example
A large-cap equity fund invests primarily in the top 100 companies by market capitalisation, offering relatively stable equity exposure.
