DematAccount
Definition
An electronic account that holds securities (shares, bonds, ETFs, etc.) in dematerialised (digital) form. A demat account is mandatory for trading in the stock market and for holding PMS investments. It is maintained by depositories like NSDL and CDSL through depository participants.
Example
When you buy shares of a company, they are credited to your demat account electronically, eliminating the need for physical share certificates.
